What is your metal saw worth on today’s market? The basic logic of valuing a machine tool (brand, age, condition and market comparison) applies here too, and What is my CNC machine worth? explains it in full. This guide does not repeat it. It covers what is different for saws.

We do not quote price figures for saws on this page. We have no reliable public market data for them, and an asking price seen online is not a sale price. What you get here is the list of factors that decide the value, so you can describe your machine accurately and judge which sales route fits.

Self-check: the value factors

Before you send an enquiry, this list helps you record the condition of your saw in a structured way. The more complete the information, the more accurate the estimate you receive from us.

  • Cutting capacity, round (mm diameter): the largest diameter the saw cuts in one pass.
  • Cutting capacity, square (mm): the largest edge length for square or rectangular material.
  • Mitre range (degrees): swivel range for angled cuts, where fitted.
  • Level of automation: manual, semi-automatic or fully automatic with a programmable sawing cycle.
  • Band dimensions or blade diameter: band length and width on band saws, diameter on circular saws.
  • Control (generation): current or older, and whether spare parts and software updates are available.
  • Material feed and roller conveyor: present, in what condition and how automated.
  • Chip conveyor: present and working, especially on circular saws with heavy chip output.
  • Saw cycles or operating hours: where the control records them, the most direct wear indicator.
  • Year of manufacture: it influences spare-part availability and control generation.

What determines the value

The condition of the band guides or blade, a documented maintenance history and the completeness of the equipment, above all the material feed and chip conveyor, influence the value of a saw more than the year of manufacture alone. Equally decisive is current market demand for exactly the type and size class of your machine at the time of sale.

What lowers the value

  • Worn band guides or clamping jaws without documented replacement.
  • Neglected coolant: corrosion on guides and mechanical parts is a typical result.
  • A missing or faulty material feed on a machine that was originally automated.
  • An unknown or no longer supported control generation with no spare parts available.

Documents that speed up the estimate

If you have them: a current photo of the nameplate, a maintenance log, the manual or wiring diagram and proof of the last blade or band change. None of these is a precondition for a first estimate. They only improve its accuracy.

How we buy a saw

We buy your saw ourselves: one offer, payment by bank transfer before pickup (direct purchase), and we organise dismantling and transport. On request we also sell saws through our buyer network, because for many series a specific buyer in our network can be found without the machine being advertised publicly. Sale through our buyer network: commission stated upfront; you are paid before pickup.

For older or heavily used machines, an online auction is often the better route. If you want, we sell your saw ourselves in an auction: reserve price set together with you, commission stated upfront, payout within 5 working days after the auction payment arrives.

The price depends on the machine, its condition and current demand. Whether the costs of dismantling and transport are included is stated in the offer upfront.

Applied to band saws and cold saws

How these factors play out in practice is shown on the type pages Sell a band saw and Sell a cold saw. The overview of all saw types, the brand landscape and the alternative of a manufacturer overhaul is on Sell a metal saw. For makers, see KASTO, Behringer and Kaltenbach.

Request a free estimate

To find out what your saw is worth today, we need: make, type, year of manufacture, cutting capacity, level of automation and control and, where known, saw cycles or operating hours. You receive the initial estimate, free of charge. The offer usually follows 24–48 hours on working days after we have all the details, and the whole process usually takes 7 to 15 working days. On a direct purchase: bank transfer before pickup; no machine leaves your site without confirmed payment.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is my metal saw worth today?

That depends on cutting capacity, level of automation, control generation, material feed and the condition of the band guides or blade. For a concrete estimate of your machine, give us the make, type, year of manufacture and cutting capacity. We reply with an initial estimate.

How do you buy my saw?

We buy your saw ourselves, with payment by bank transfer before pickup (direct purchase). On request we also sell it through our buyer network, introducing it confidentially to a suitable buyer, with no public advertisement.

What do saw cycles mean compared with spindle hours on a CNC machine?

Saw cycles are the counterpart of spindle hours on a CNC machine: they show how often the machine has actually cut under load and are a direct wear indicator. As with spindle hours, the bare number says little without the maintenance history. A well-maintained machine with many cycles can be in better condition than a neglected one with few.

How important is the control generation for the value of my saw?

Considerably more than many sellers assume. A current control generation with spare parts and software updates available appeals to a wider group of buyers than an older, unsupported version. That does not make an older control unsaleable, but it moves the machine into a different segment.

Does a faulty chip conveyor reduce the value a lot?

It reduces it, but rarely drastically. A chip conveyor is a separate unit and can usually be repaired or retrofitted. Worn band guides, leaking hydraulics or a missing material feed on a machine that was originally automated weigh more.

Which documents should I have ready for the valuation?

If you have them: a photo of the nameplate, a maintenance log, the manual or wiring diagram and proof of the last blade or band change. They are not required for a first estimate but they make it more accurate.

How long does the valuation of my saw take?

The initial estimate follows once we have the make, type, year, cutting capacity, level of automation and control. The offer usually follows 24–48 hours on working days after we have all the details once all the information is in. Photos of the nameplate, saw head and control panel speed it up.

Is an asking price I see online what my saw will sell for?

No. An asking price is not a sale price. Listings show what sellers hope to get, not what was paid, and they say nothing about how long the machine has been on offer. That is why we give no flat price range for saws here.

How does this differ from the general CNC valuation method?

The basic logic of brand, age, condition and market comparison applies to saws as well and is explained in What is my CNC machine worth? This guide does not repeat it. It concentrates on the saw-specific measures: cutting capacity, saw cycles, material feed and chip conveyor instead of spindle hours and tool magazine.
