Two machine families under the Vollmer name. This page covers only the rotary tool family: machines for grinding, eroding and laser machining end mills, drills and PCD-tipped tools. These are the VGrind, VHybrid, QXD, QM, QWD, VPulse and VLaser. Vollmer’s saw blade sharpening machines (types such as CNC, CNE, CNG, CAB, CHF, CHX, CHC, CANA, Finimat or Unimat) are a different family, and this page does not cover them. Dealers call both ‘tool grinders’, so the type designation on the nameplate decides, not the word in the listing title.
If you want to sell a Vollmer from the rotary tool family, such as a VGrind, a VHybrid or an erosion machine from the QXD and QM series, we buy your tool grinder. Sale through our buyer network: commission stated upfront; you are paid before pickup. You usually get a first assessment. For the overview of all machine types and brands, see Sell tool grinders; for the machine type, see Sell CNC tool grinders and, for the erosion machines, Sell PCD tool grinders.
Who Vollmer is and how to recognise the right family
VOLLMER WERKE Maschinenfabrik GmbH is based in Biberach an der Riß, Germany. According to the manufacturer’s own history, the company began in 1909 with Heinrich Vollmer and machines for setting and filing saws. Machining of carbide-tipped circular saws followed in 1952, erosion machines for diamond-tipped woodworking tools in 1988 and wire erosion machines in 1998. Vollmer says it entered the tool grinder market only in 2014, with the VGrind. The manufacturer’s website accordingly divides its range into three areas: rotary tools, circular saws and band saws.
For the used market this means that most listings under ‘Vollmer grinding machine’ are saw sharpeners. Anyone offering or looking for a VGrind quickly ends up among saw types. The table shows how to tell the two families apart by type designation.
| Designation begins with or is | Family | Covered here? |
|---|---|---|
| VGrind, VHybrid, VPulse, VLaser | Rotary tools: grinding, hybrid of grinding and erosion, wire erosion, laser | Yes |
| QXD, QM, QWD | Rotary tools: eroding PCD-tipped tools (disc or wire) | Yes |
| QS, QSF | Disc erosion machines for PCD circular saw blades. An exception to the Q pattern | No, saw family |
| CS, CP, CM, CHC, CHX, CHP, CHF (for example CHX 840, CHX 1300) | Circular saw blade grinding machines according to the manufacturer | No, saw family |
| CNC, CNE, CNG, CAB, CABG, CANA, CL, CX | Dealer spellings of older saw sharpening machines | No, saw family |
| Finimat, Unimat | Saw sharpening machines | No, saw family |
| ND (series 230 to 360) | Automation for saw sharpening machines | No, saw family |
| CB, CBF | Band saw machines | No, saw family |
As a rule of thumb: V types plus QXD, QM and QWD are rotary tool machines; C types, Finimat and Unimat are saw machines; QS and QSF are the exception. If your nameplate says something else, let us see the photo before you list the machine.
The series at a glance
The table lists the series shown in Vollmer’s product finder for rotary tools (manufacturer data, as of 30 September 2026). For your individual machine, the nameplate and data sheet apply; the table replaces neither.

Older series no longer appear in this list. Vollmer has published brochures or news items on some of them, which we summarise here. The details come from those documents; the manufacturer pages we checked do not say whether an older series was replaced by a current one, so we do not state any such assignment.
| Older designation | What the manufacturer says |
|---|---|
| VGrind 260 (2022) | Complete machining of carbide rotary tools; tool diameter up to 200 (larger depending on version), length up to 360, wheels up to Ø 150; five axes; two vertical spindles (belt 10,500 / 6,500 rpm or motor 16,000 rpm); automation HP 160, HC 4, internal pallet loader |
| VGrind 360 | Five-axis grinding of carbide tools up to 100 mm; described by Vollmer as the first grinding machine with two vertically arranged grinding spindles; automation HP 160, HC 4, articulated-arm robot HPR 250 |
| VGrind 360S | Manufacturer announcement of 15 May 2024 on grinding and PcBN machining; linear motors in X, Y, Z, two grinding spindles. We give no tool diameter figures |

| QM 110, QWD 760 and 750 | Older erosion machines: disc electrode (QM 110) and wire (QWD 760 for metal, QWD 750 for woodworking). No specifications are available here |
Names on the used market and their pitfalls
The table shows marketplace spellings from dealer listings. They are names, not manufacturer data; we take over only the designation.
| Designation in the listing | Classification |
|---|---|
| ‘VGRIND 340S / HP 160 Automation’, ‘VGRIND 360 / HP 160 Automation’ | Dealer spellings for series plus loading unit. HP 160 is the name of a pallet magazine in the manufacturer’s brochures. We have no manufacturer data on the VGrind 340S. |
| ‘VGRIND 160’ | Described in the listing as a 5-axis CNC tool grinder, year 2016. We have no manufacturer data on it. |
| ‘QXD 250’ | Also listed (year 2019) as a disc erosion machine with six CNC axes. This name is on the manufacturer’s list. |
| ‘QXD 200’ | Listed (year 2008) as a universal erosion and grinding machine. We have no manufacturer data on it. |
| ‘Vollmer Vgrind’, ‘Vollmer VGRIND’ | Spellings without a series suffix. The manufacturer writes VGrind, followed by argon, infinity or a number. |
| ‘Vollmer tool grinder’ (no type) | On marketplaces sometimes a circular saw sharpening machine. Check the nameplate. |
Compare your machine only with listings that state series, year and control. One more note on spelling: the manufacturer writes ‘VGrind infinity LINEAR’ with the LINEAR suffix. Writing just ‘VGrind’ does not help a buyer.
Control and software
On Vollmer grinding machines the NUMROTO or NUMROTOplus control software is a central point. Vollmer describes it as a deliberately chosen, established CNC/CAM system. The VPulse 500 wire erosion machine runs ExProg, the VHybrid 260 ExLevel PRO and the VLaser ExProg Laser. There is also the digital service environment V@dison with modules such as V@screen and V@check.
For buyers, the control generation decides whether the machine can be programmed with current software. When you enquire, please give us: software version, operating system on the operator PC, whether a licence is tied to the machine, and what is handed over with it. The product finder names the service packages VBASIC, VPRO and VCOMPLETE; which one applies to your machine is a question for the manufacturer.
What decides the value of a used Vollmer
The full valuation matrix is in the guide What is my tool grinder worth?. For the rotary tool family these points count in particular.
| Value factor | Why it counts | What to include |
|---|---|---|
| Process: grinding, eroding or both | A VGrind grinds, a QXD erodes, a VHybrid can do both. A buyer searches by tool range, for example PCD-tipped tools. | A note on which tools were last made |
| Tool diameter and length | The range decides which end mills and drills the machine can take at all. | Nameplate, largest and smallest tool ground |
| Loading system and magazines | Pallet magazine, chain magazine or articulated-arm robot determine how much the machine produces unattended. | Loader type, capacity, photo, whether it is sold with the machine |
| Wheel changer and spindles | The number of stations and the condition of the spindles are part of every valuation. | Operating hours, maintenance records |
| Control and software version | The NUMROTO or ExProg version and licence status decide how easily a buyer can carry on working. | Version details, licence documents |
| Erosion generator and electrodes | On erosion machines, the generator fitted and the condition of electrodes and handling system count. | Generator type, records, accessory list |
| Measuring system | Laser measurement (VGrind infinity LINEAR) or three-point measurement (QXD 250) makes inspection easier for the buyer. | A note whether the option is fitted and calibrated |
| Year and series | Machines from before the current manufacturer list are classified differently. | Nameplate, invoices, modifications |
| Accessories | Wheel sets, holders, collets and fixtures make the handover easier. | Inventory list with photos |
Vollmer itself: used machines and service
The manufacturer’s website has a used machines section that mentions rotary tools, circular saws and band saws and describes them as a low-cost alternative for a short-term capacity increase. It shows no stock list or warranty terms. Vollmer also offers service, spare parts, training, financing and digitalisation. We found no retrofit offer specifically for tool grinders on the manufacturer pages we checked. Whether there is one is a question for the manufacturer.
We do not know whether, or on what terms, the manufacturer takes machines from sellers; you can ask them. Our route is the independent one, through our buyer network.
How to sell your Vollmer to MBR
- Send the details: nameplate (series, serial number, year), control and software version, operating hours, maintenance records.
- Add photos: overall view, work area with the spindles, loader or magazine, control cabinet, operator interface.

The whole process usually takes 7–15 working days on a direct purchase; if it is urgent, an on-site visit is possible, usually within 48–72 hours on working days.
- Dismantling and transport: we organise both, including magazines and loaders. Whether the costs are included is stated in the offer upfront.
- Payment before pickup (direct purchase): no machine leaves your site without confirmed payment.
The general process is described under How it works, answers to standard questions under FAQ.
What we do not cover here
This page is about Vollmer’s rotary tool family. The company’s saw blade sharpening machines, circular saw machines and band saw machines are expressly not covered. General precision grinding machines that do not make tools are under Sell grinding machines, general erosion machines under Sell EDM machines. We do not take loose grinding wheels or individual spare parts as single items.
Other tool grinder brands
If you are selling several machines from different manufacturers, the brand pages are here: Walter with the HELITRONIC series, ANCA and Rollomatic. The overview of all brands is on the tool grinders page.
