Want to sell a used CNC tool grinder, a 5-axis machine for milling cutters, drills and inserts? We buy your machine. Send the nameplate, the control and the year and you usually receive an initial estimate. We organise dismantling and transport; on a direct purchase, payment is made by bank transfer before pickup.

The overview of all machine classes and makers is on sell a tool and cutter grinder. If your machine erodes PCD or PcBN cutting edges, PCD tool grinders is the better fit.

What makes a CNC tool grinder

The core of a CNC tool grinder is its kinematics. Three linear axes (X, Y, Z) move workpiece and wheel head against each other, and two rotary axes (A and C) guide the wheel around the tool. On the Schneeberger aries NGP the A axis is the HSK 80 tool holder; for the Walter HELITRONIC RAPID the maker speaks of 5 CNC-controlled axes. Six axes are found at Rollomatic (GrindSmart 630XS and 630XW) and at Schneeberger (sirius NGS).

Two uses shape the machines. In production, blanks become finished series tools, usually with a loader or robot for unmanned running. In resharpening, dull tools are brought back to their original geometry, often in a tool room or at a service business. On the used market the line is blurred and many machines can do both, so equipment counts for more than the labels ‘production’ or ‘regrinder’.

Comparing common CNC series

The table shows selected series of the main makers with their manufacturer data (as of 30 September 2026). The diameter figures are not directly comparable: some makers state the tool diameter, others the workpiece diameter or the wheel size. The column therefore says what each maker’s page gives.

Saacke UW I PX 730 / Y 305 mmUp to 300 mm diameter, length up to 690 mmSpindle up to 36 kW, 14-position wheel changer, NUMROTOplus / NUMROTO X

For the ANCA FX5 the maker’s pages give two different spindle powers (12 and 19 kW). We therefore print no figure for that machine and ask for the value from the nameplate.

Walter, ANCA, Vollmer and Rollomatic each have their own page; Schneeberger, Haas Multigrind and Saacke are covered on the tool grinder overview.

Control and software: the biggest single factor

On a used tool grinder the control often matters more than the year. A buyer who wants to program new tools needs matching software, a current operating system and spares for control and drives.

  • Walter: HELITRONIC TOOL STUDIO is the CAD/CAM software for programming, simulation and production. According to the maker’s page it runs on Windows XP, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10. For machines with a Fanuc control there is a Windows 10 upgrade with a new 15 or 19 inch touch operating computer. A machine that already has the upgrade is easier to take over.
  • ANCA: the Linear generation works with AMC5 G2 and AMD5x controls, and the software is called ToolRoom (RN34 and RN35).
  • Schneeberger: Fanuc 31i-B5 with the software QUINTO Qg1. A dealer listing from 2010 names Quinto 4 on an older machine.
  • Rollomatic: VirtualGrind Pro on the GrindSmart models; for the Nano5 the maker states free software upgrades throughout the life of the machine.
  • Haas Multigrind: Sinamics or Sinumerik 840D sl with the Horizon software, which is also used in the retrofit of older Multigrind machines.
  • Vollmer and Saacke: both rely on NUMROTO, a third-party programming system. Vollmer says itself that it chose an established system on the market.

Have the control type, software version, operating system and licence papers ready, clarify whether the licence and program library go with the machine, and name any upgrade that has been done.

Loader, wheel changer and measuring system

Loader and wheel changer decide how independently a machine runs, and capacities lie far apart.

FeatureExamples from manufacturer data
Loader for series toolsANCA FX7 Linear: Fanuc robot for up to 840 tools (3 mm), 520 (6 mm) or 221 (12 mm); Rollomatic GrindSmart 630XS: up to 1,360 tools; GrindSmart 830XW: Fanuc robot up to 4,500 parts
Pallets and magazinesSaacke UW I D: pallet magazine up to 143, chain magazine up to 320; Vollmer VGrind infinity LINEAR: HP 170 pallet magazine (900 tools), internal pallet loader (about 300)
Wheel changerVollmer: 8 positions; Saacke UW I P: 14 positions; Schneeberger norma NGC: up to 21 wheels; Rollomatic GrindSmart 830XW: 15 positions
Measuring systemWalter: Laser Contour Check; Vollmer: laser measuring on the VGrind infinity LINEAR; ANCA: LaserPlus as an option

A missing loader rules the machine out for many series producers, while a loader the buyer does not need is a cost at dismantling and transport. So tell us whether loader, robot and measuring system belong to the machine and are to be sold with it.

Linear motors and drive generation

Linear motors on the axes mark the newer generation. ANCA introduced them with the FX Linear range in 2014; Walter’s company history names linear drives for the HELITRONIC VISION in 2003. Schneeberger lists linear motors as an option on all axes of the gemini NGM, and Vollmer fits wear-free linear motors on X, Y and Z of the VGrind infinity LINEAR and argon LINEAR. For a buyer this often means less wear on the feed axes, but it needs a matching control and an intact motor set. State the drive type in your enquiry.

Names on the used market

Dealer portals list the same machine under several spellings. We take only the names from listings, never their figures.

Spelling in the listingWhat is behind it
‘ANCA RX7’, ‘RX-7’, ‘TX7 +’, ‘MX7 / MLX loader’Machines of the older ANCA generation without ‘Linear’; MLX is the loader
‘Walter Helitronic Power’, ‘Heli-Power’, ‘Helitronic Power Production’, ‘HMC 400’Dealer spellings; the maker writes HELITRONIC in capitals with model names such as POWER 400
‘Schneeberger Sirius HPM’, ‘Gemini DMR’, ‘Norma CFG’, ‘Corvus GDS’Older dealer designations. Today’s series are sirius NGS, gemini NGM, norma NGC and corvus NGB; the old names are not confirmed as predecessors
‘Roll-o-Matic CNC 600 X’, ‘Rollomatic 6000XL’Older Rollomatic machines that are no longer documented on the maker’s current pages
‘Saacke UWIF’, ‘UW1F’, ‘UW I F’The same series in three spellings; UW I D, UW I F and UW II D are normally CNC grinding centres
‘Adelbert Haas Multigrind CA’, ‘Haas Multigrind AF1’The Multigrind grinders of Adelbert Haas GmbH, not Haas Automation

The nameplate counts for more than a listing title, and a fair comparison needs listings that give series, year and control.

Dismantling and transport

CNC tool grinders weigh from about 1,700 kg (Schneeberger aries NGP) upwards; the ANCA FX7 ULTRA weighs 4,500 kg according to the maker. Lifting gear, transport and access to the hall depend on that. We organise dismantling and transport, and whether those costs are included is stated in the offer upfront. Coolant, oil mist extraction, loader, wheel changer and the control cabinet belong in the plan.

How to sell your CNC tool grinder to MBR

  1. Send the data: nameplate, control and software version, year, spindle hours, loader, accessories (collets, holders, wheel sets), service records and any accuracy reports.
  2. Add photos: overall view, work area, loader, control cabinet and screen.
  3. Receive the estimate: you learn how we place your machine. Sale through our buyer network: commission stated upfront; you are paid before pickup.
  4. Offer: usually within 24 to 48 hours on working days once all information is in. An urgent on-site visit is possible, usually within 48 to 72 hours on working days.
  5. Dismantling and transport: we organise both and agree date and access with you.
  6. Payment before pickup (direct purchase): no machine leaves your site without confirmed payment. The whole process usually takes 7 to 15 working days on a direct purchase.

The general process is under how it works, and how the value is built up is in what is my tool grinder worth. We are not affiliated with any of the makers; all manufacturer data comes from public sources.

Where this page ends

This page covers machines that make and resharpen tools with grinding wheels. If your machine erodes PCD or PcBN edges, see PCD tool grinders. General precision grinders that do not make tools are on our page for grinding machines, and EDM machines for mould making on EDM machines. Loose grinding wheels, clamping devices and single spare parts are not part of the programme.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you buy used CNC tool grinders?

Yes. We assess 5-axis and 6-axis CNC tool grinders for production and resharpening, including machines from Walter, ANCA, Schneeberger, Rollomatic, Haas Multigrind, Vollmer and Saacke. We buy your machine. Send the nameplate, control and year of manufacture and you usually receive an initial estimate.

What is the difference between a 5-axis and a 6-axis tool grinder?

On a 5-axis machine three linear axes and two rotary axes guide the grinding wheel around the tool. Some makers add a sixth axis: Rollomatic describes a sixth-axis concept with tilting wheels on the GrindSmart 630XW, and Schneeberger lists the sirius NGS as a 6-axis machine with a freely rotating and swivelling HSK 80 holder. For a sale it matters which axes are actually fitted and working. State the number as it appears on the data sheet.

How much does the control affect the value of my machine?

A lot. The control decides whether a buyer can still program the machine with current software and whether spares for control and drives are available. Makers use different systems: Fanuc at Walter and Schneeberger, their own AMC5 and AMD5x controls at ANCA, Sinamics with Horizon software at Haas Multigrind, and NUMROTO at Vollmer and Saacke. We place the control of your machine in the estimate.

Is a Windows upgrade or retrofit worth doing before I sell?

That depends on the maker and the series. Walter offers a Windows 10 upgrade for machines with a Fanuc control. Whether an upgrade pays off before a sale can only be judged case by case. An upgrade that has already been done belongs in the documents. If you want to keep the machine, talk to the maker first. If you want to release it, we buy your machine.

What does ‘Linear’ in the name of an ANCA machine mean?

At ANCA, ‘Linear’ stands for the current generation with linear motors on the axes. ANCA launched the FX Linear range in 2014. Older machines carry no suffix, and dealers write them as RX7, TX7 or MX7. State this exactly when you sell, because an RX7 and an FX7 Linear are different machines.

Does the loader affect the price?

Yes. Loaders and robots allow unmanned running and make the machine interesting for series producers. Capacities differ widely: the ANCA FX7 Linear loads up to 840 tools of 3 mm diameter with a Fanuc robot, and the Rollomatic GrindSmart 830XW up to 4,500 parts. Tell us the loader type, its capacity and whether the loader is to be sold with the machine.

How is a 5-axis tool grinder dismantled?

We organise dismantling and transport. Coolant, oil mist extraction, loader, wheel changer and control cabinet have to be planned in advance, together with the weight. According to manufacturer data the Schneeberger aries NGP weighs about 1,700 kg, the ANCA FX7 ULTRA 4,500 kg and the Saacke UW I D about 5,200 kg. Direct purchase: bank transfer before pickup; no machine leaves your site without confirmed payment.

Do you also take machines that no longer run?

Tell us the condition openly: whether the machine runs, whether there is collision damage or a spindle problem, whether the control starts. We assess each machine individually. A fault does not rule out a sale, but it shapes the estimate and the route.

Where is the line to your page on general grinding machines?

Tool grinders make and resharpen cutting tools. Surface, cylindrical, internal and coordinate grinders machine workpieces and are on our page for general grinding machines. If in doubt, the type designation settles it.

Is Haas Multigrind the same as Haas Automation?

No. Multigrind grinders are built by Adelbert Haas GmbH in Trossingen. Haas Automation is the American maker of CNC mills and lathes. Machines from Haas Automation are on our Haas CNC page.
