Price of a Used CNC Milling Machine: Complete Valuation Guide

Non-binding first estimate, usually within 24 hours on working days. Direct purchase: payment before pickup. A service by MBR — active since 2020 in 15+ countries.

What a used CNC milling machine costs depends on manufacturer, build year, axis configuration and condition. The spread is substantial. This guide gives asking prices from listings where we have enough offers, and the value factors for all other models.

Price classes by machine type

3-axis vertical machining centers (VMC)

For prismatic parts, drilling and contour milling in three axes. Very broad range of applications, large used market.

Entry level (Haas VF-2): asking prices from €14,000 to €36,400 (3 offers, build years 2003–2015, as of October 2026). Mid-range (Mazak, DMG MORI DMC 1035): we have no reliable public price range for these models, because not enough listings state a price. Build year, control, spindle hours and condition determine the value. Premium 3-axis (Hermle C 12, older C 30 U): no reliable public price range; we do not have enough listings with a stated price for Hermle.

5-axis machines (3+2 or simultaneous)

Five-axis machining is the core of modern CNC milling: simultaneous 5-axis machining of free-form surfaces for turbine blades, molds, implants and aerospace structures.

5-axis with trunnion table (DMG MORI DMU 50, Hermle C 32 U and C 42, Mazak Variaxis i-500/600/700): we have no reliable public price range for these models, because used machines are mostly listed without a price. The only exception: older DMU 50 machines from build years 2004–2007 appear in listings at €23,000–27,500 net (4 offers, gebrauchtmaschinen.de, as of October 2026). High-end 5-axis (Hermle C 52, Röders RXP 800): no reliable public price range; we do not have enough listings with a stated price for these models.

Horizontal machining centers (HMC)

For series production with a pallet changer — typical in the automotive industry and among hydraulics manufacturers.

Compact HMC (Mazak HCN 5000, DMG MORI NH 5000): no reliable public price range; we do not have enough listings with a stated price for horizontal machining centers. Build year, pallet changer, control and spindle hours determine the value. Mid-size (Heller H 2000): no reliable public price range. Large (Heller MCH 350, MAG Hüller Hille NBH 300): no reliable public price range.

Asking prices from listings, not sale prices. Spindle hours, control version and equipment influence the value considerably.

The figures for the DMU 50 (build years 2004–2007, 4 offers) and Haas VF-2 (3 offers) are asking prices from listings as of October 2026, not sale prices. For all other models in the table, and for the Hermle C 32 U, Hermle C 42 and Mazak Variaxis, we have no reliable public price range.

Heidenhain or Siemens — which fetches more?

In Germany and Western Europe, Heidenhain TNC (640, 530) has a slight premium advantage over Siemens 840D SL on the same machine, because toolmakers and prototype shops prefer Heidenhain over Siemens.

In Eastern Europe, Turkey and Asia, Siemens is often equally valued or slightly preferred — depending on local operator availability.

CELOS (DMG MORI), as an interface layer on top of Heidenhain or Siemens, is a convenience feature that improves connectivity and process visualization — not an independent value factor, but a positively perceived one.

When is the best time to sell?

The best time is always earlier than you think. CNC milling machines lose value continuously — through technological progress (new control generations, higher precision on newer models) and mechanical wear. If you’re modernizing, put the old machine into the sale process the moment you order the new one — not once the new machine arrives.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a used Hermle C 32 U cost?

For the Hermle C 32 U (5-axis) we have no reliable public price range, because used Hermle machines are mostly listed without a price. Build year, control generation (iTNC 530 or TNC 640), spindle hours and condition determine the value. The Hermle U series with trunnion table is especially sought-after on the used market — for 5-axis simultaneous machining of free-form surfaces.

What's the price gap between used 3-axis and 5-axis milling machines?

Substantial. A 3-axis VMC (vertical machining center) is usually valued lower used than a comparable 5-axis swivel-head or trunnion-table center from the same manufacturer and build year. We have no reliable public price range for either group, because used machines are mostly listed without a price. The functional gain — no multiple setups, complex geometries in a single clamping — shows up directly in the price.

What is my DMG MORI DMU 50 worth?

For older DMU 50 machines from build years 2004–2007, current listings on gebrauchtmaschinen.de show asking prices of €23,000 to €27,500 net (four offers, as of October 2026). For the ecoLine and the 3rd Generation with CELOS (from 2017) we have no reliable public price range, because most listings state no price. The DMU 50 is one of the most widely used 5-axis machining centers on the market — hence a correspondingly liquid used market.

Which CNC milling machine manufacturers achieve the highest used prices?

Premium brands such as Hermle (Gosheim, Germany), Heidenhain-controlled Röders, DMG MORI 5-axis (CELOS generation), Mazak Variaxis/Integrex J and Okuma MB/MA generally retain their value far better. In the standard segment, Haas, Hurco and Brother sit lower in price — and correspondingly retain less value.

What is a Mazak Variaxis i-700 worth?

For the Mazak Variaxis i-700 (5-axis, trunnion table, SmoothX control) we have no reliable public price range, because used Variaxis machines are mostly listed without a price. Variaxis machines built their reputation on very high thermal stability and MAZATROL's operator-friendly control. Buyers: aerospace, medtech, energy supply.

Is a Hermle worth it, or is a DMG MORI just as good on the used market?

Hermle tends to hold its value per year better than a DMG MORI of the same specification and build year. DMG MORI, however, has a considerably broader model range and therefore more liquidity (more buyers know the machine). For toolmaking and precision manufacturing: Hermle. For a broader market: DMG MORI.

What does a used horizontal milling machine (HMC) cost?

Horizontal machining centers (HMC) for series production are usually valued higher used than vertical centers of comparable size. For the Heller MCH 350 and DMG MORI NHX 4000 we have no reliable public price range, because not enough listings state a price. The value lies in series production — pallet pools, FMS integration and high spindle-speed stability.

What does Heidenhain fetch over Siemens on the milling machine market?

Heidenhain TNC 640 often commands a premium over Siemens 840D SL on the same machine in Germany and Western Europe — because toolmakers and prototype shops prefer Heidenhain. In other markets (Eastern Europe, Turkey, Asia), Siemens is often equally valued or preferred. The size of the premium depends on the target market.

What does a Röders RXP 500 cost on the used market?

Röders (Soltau, Lower Saxony) builds high-speed milling machines for precision moldmaking and graphite machining. For the RXP 500 DS we have no reliable public price range; build year, spindle hours, control and condition determine the value. Röders achieves very good used prices — similar to Hermle within its niche segment.

When is the best time to sell?

As soon as you know you're switching. The price of a milling machine falls over time — no CNC milling machine gets more valuable on the used market as it ages. A younger machine fetches more than an older one of the same specification. If you're modernizing, sell the old machine as soon as possible — not just before the new installation arrives.
