Shears are the most basic tool in sheet metal processing. Simple in mechanics, durable with proper care — and often undervalued on the used market. Even older shears in good condition have an active international market, particularly in Eastern Europe, Turkey, and North Africa.

We buy hydraulic and electric shears from all manufacturers, wherever they’re located.

Shear types and their market profile

Guillotine shears (TRUMPF, Bystronic, Amada, LVD)

Guillotine shears with a straight blade movement are more precise than swing-beam shears and suited to thicker sheets. The TRUMPF TruShear series, Bystronic ByShear, and Amada shears are among the most widespread machines in sheet metal shops.

Used market: active, good export demand, even older machines in good condition find buyers.

Swing-beam shears (Safan, Ehrt, Rexel)

For thin sheets (< 4 mm) in simpler shops. Cheaper to buy new and used than guillotines. Broad market in Eastern Europe and Turkey among contract manufacturers looking for affordable capacity.

Heavy-duty shears for thick sheet (Jorns, Gasparini)

For sheets over 15 mm — e.g., 20 mm steel or 30 mm aluminum. Very specialized market, higher individual prices, buyers from shipbuilding, structural steel, and equipment manufacturing.

What determines the price of a shear

Blade condition: The most important quality factor. Freshly sharpened or new blades raise the value compared with dull blades that will soon need replacing.

Back gauge: An accurate, well-maintained CNC back gauge (which sets the distance between the stop and the cutting edge of the blade) is essential for cut accuracy. Faulty or imprecise back gauges are a deduction.

Control generation: Simple numeric stop controls are sufficient for many buyers. Full CNC programming (cut programs with automatic sequencing) commands a premium.

Sheet thickness and cut length: Larger capacities mean higher prices, but also a more selective buyer pool.

General wear: Upper-blade guides, blade-holder clamping system, and cutting-force transmission — a visual inspection quickly shows whether the machine was well maintained.

Shears are often sold together with press brakes and lasers. If you’re selling an entire sheet metal processing line, we buy it all — let us know when you first contact us.

Typical buyers of a shear

Compact shears mostly find buyers among smaller metal fabrication shops and contract manufacturers. Medium and large shears with a CNC back gauge are in demand among sheet metal processors and in structural steel and plant construction, where repeatable series cuts matter most. Older, purely hydraulic models frequently find a buyer through export.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Which shear manufacturers do you buy?

All common hydraulic and electric shears: TRUMPF (TruShear), Bystronic (ByShear), Amada (GPN, GPX), LVD (Impuls, HSL), Durma, Ermaksan, HACO, Jorns (shears for thick sheet), Gasparini. Also more affordable brands like Safan, Ehrt, Rexel.

Is it worth selling an old shear?

Yes, if the blade system is still in good condition. Shears have simple mechanics and, with proper care, last a very long time. A shear in good condition with sharp blades is still easy to sell even after many years. If the blades are dull, that's not a disqualifier — we factor it in.

What happens to a shear's blade on the used market?

The shear blade is the most critical wear part. Dull blades widen the cutting gap, cause burrs, and significantly reduce cut quality. Well-sharpened blades are very valuable to the buyer — if your shear had freshly sharpened blades shortly before the sale, tell us explicitly.

Do you also buy folding machines and brakes for facade work?

Yes. Folding machines (Jorns, Schüler, TRUMPF TruBend 5000 folding module) and brakes for facade and roofing sheet metal work are a different market than CNC press brakes, but we buy these too.

How do guillotine-type shears differ from swing-beam shears?

Guillotine shears (e.g., TRUMPF TruShear) cut with a straight, downward blade movement — for thicker sheets and more precise cuts. Swing-beam shears (e.g., Safan, Ehrt) have a pivoting movement of the upper blade — cheaper, for thin sheets, less precise at the cut edge. Guillotines achieve more on the used market.

Do you buy shears together with press brakes and lasers?

Yes, and that's often the best approach: selling a sheet metal processing line as a lot simplifies logistics, and we make a single offer. Let us know if you want to sell a complete line.

How long does disassembly of a shear take?

Shears are mechanically simpler than CNC machining centers. Disassembly and loading typically take half a day to a full day — depending on sheet length and weight.

Is surface rust on the machine table a disqualifier?

No. Light surface rust on the sheet support tables isn't a structural problem — the table is occasionally reground. What matters is the condition of the blade holder, blade tensioning, and the guides of the upper blade.

Which shear size is most liquid on the used market?

Shears with a cut length of around three metres and 6 mm sheet capacity are a common size — many shops, many buyers. Very large shears (over 6,000 mm or over 25 mm) have a more selective buyer market, but correspondingly higher individual prices.
