Technical review: Marcel Brockmann, CEO & Co-Founder

We buy used Netstal injection molding machines: PET-Line machines for PET preforms and the universal Elion series, including the Elion MED variant for medical technology. We usually buy on our own account and charge no commission on a direct purchase. Send us the machine data and you receive a first estimate. With all information in, the offer follows; on a direct purchase, payment is made by bank transfer before pickup, and we organise dismantling and transport. For the full market, see Sell injection molding machines.

Netstal-Maschinen AG, Näfels, canton of Glarus

Netstal-Maschinen AG is based in Näfels in the canton of Glarus, Switzerland. The company belonged to the KraussMaffei Group from 1992. On 28 March 2024, Krones AG completed the acquisition of Netstal from KraussMaffei; the deal had been signed on 6 February 2024. Netstal has belonged to Krones since then, not to KraussMaffei. We correct this expressly because older statements on group ownership are now outdated.

PET-Line: specified by cavities and cycle time

The PET-Line is Netstal’s series for PET preforms, the blanks from which beverage and food bottles are blown. The key difference from an ordinary injection molding machine is how a PET-Line machine is described and traded. Rather than talking mainly about clamping force, as is usual for other makes, the market specifies a PET-Line machine primarily by cavity count and cycle time. A typical description is 144 cavities, 400 t of clamping force and a cycle of 4.8 seconds.

If you want to sell a PET-Line machine, those two figures are our starting point for the valuation, not clamping force alone. A PET-Line machine is often run with downstream cooling and handling equipment; if that is sold too, we include it in the valuation of the package.

Elion: the universal series, including Elion MED

Elion is Netstal’s general injection molding programme for applications outside PET preform production. Within the series, the Elion MED variant serves medical technology and is in part all-electric. For Elion machines we orient ourselves, as with other injection molding machines, on clamping force, build year, control and condition. Medical technology machines can have a specific buyer market; tell us if yours was qualified or validated.

Why there are no public prices

No reliable public price data exists for Netstal. Real listings are rare and practically none states a figure. On top of that, Netstal runs its own programme for refurbished machines and take-back: a manufacturer-side second market alongside the open used market, but independent of our purchase. A solid valuation therefore rests on the factors that actually decide the value:

Value factorEffect on the price
Build yearNewer machines achieve more, regardless of series
Cavity count and cycle time (PET-Line)The primary specification of a PET-Line machine and decisive for the buyer pool
Clamping force (Elion)The central comparison figure for Elion, as for other injection molding machines
Control and conditionA current control and documented maintenance directly affect the buyer pool

Placing your machine without a public number

There is no public price list for Netstal, so a personal valuation is not a stopgap here but the only reliable route to a realistic figure. For a PET-Line machine, tell us cavity count, cycle time, build year and control. For an Elion machine, tell us clamping force, build year and control. We place your machine from those details. Our general method is described in How we value your machine and What is my injection molding machine worth?.

What we need from you

  • Series, build year and, for PET-Line, cavity count and cycle time
  • Control designation and the condition of the machine
  • A list of the peripheral equipment included in the sale
  • Photos of the nameplate and, if possible, the operator panel
  • Known faults and maintenance history

How the sale works

  1. Send the data. Free and without obligation.
  2. First estimate, from your data and our market knowledge.
  3. Offer usually within 24 to 48 hours on working days once all information is in. An urgent on-site visit takes place, usually within 48 to 72 hours on working days.
  4. Direct purchase: payment before pickup, then dismantling and transport, also for complex PET-Line plants with peripherals. From first contact the process usually takes 7 to 15 working days. See How it works.

Other injection molding machine makers with a thin public price picture that we also buy: Wittmann Battenfeld and Haitian International. Whole fleets can be valued in one visit; see Plant closure.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is my used Netstal worth?

There is no public figure. Reliable public price data does not exist for Netstal machines, neither for the PET-Line nor for Elion. We value instead on build year, series, cavity count and cycle time for PET-Line machines, control and condition. Send us those details and you receive a personal estimate.

Does Netstal still belong to KraussMaffei?

No, not since 2024. Netstal was part of the KraussMaffei Group from 1992. Krones AG completed the acquisition of Netstal from KraussMaffei on 28 March 2024, after the deal had been signed on 6 February 2024. Netstal has belonged to Krones since then. This plays no technical role in placing a used machine, but older information on group ownership is now out of date, so we state it plainly.

What is the Netstal PET-Line?

The PET-Line is Netstal’s series for PET preforms, the blanks from which beverage and food bottles are later blown. Unlike an ordinary injection molding machine, a PET-Line machine is specified mainly by cavity count and cycle time, not by clamping force alone. A machine with 144 cavities, 400 t of clamping force and a 4.8 second cycle is a typical description in this segment. For a PET-Line machine, please give us cavity count and cycle time.

What is Elion and how does it differ from the PET-Line?

Elion is Netstal’s universal series for general injection molding, in contrast to the PET-Line, which is aimed exclusively at PET preforms. There is also an Elion MED variant for medical technology, in part all-electric. For Elion we specify, as with other injection molding machines, mainly by clamping force, build year and control.

Why can I not find prices for Netstal machines online?

Because there are none. Real listings for Netstal machines are rare and practically never state a figure. In addition, Netstal itself runs a programme for refurbished machines; that channel runs through the manufacturer directly, is independent of our purchase and we have no connection to it. For you as the seller it means there are simply no comparable prices to research, and a personal valuation is the only practical route to a solid estimate.

What affects the value of a used Netstal most?

For PET-Line machines, first cavity count and cycle time, then build year, control and condition. For Elion machines, as with other injection molding machines, first clamping force and build year, then control and condition. Automation and peripherals, such as take-out or cooling systems on PET-Line plants, matter as well when they are sold with the machine.

Do you also buy complete PET-Line plants with peripherals?

Yes. A PET-Line machine is often run together with downstream cooling and handling equipment. If that peripheral equipment is sold too, we include it in the valuation of the whole package. Tell us which components are part of the sale.

Do you handle dismantling and transport?

Yes, we organise both. Netstal machines, especially PET-Line plants with connected peripherals, are complex to dismantle. Hydraulics, temperature-control technology and peripherals are separated properly, and packing and transport are organised. You do not have to run the logistics yourself. Whether the costs are included is stated upfront in the offer.

How long does the whole sale take?

You receive the first estimate after sending us the machine data, and an offer once we have all information. On a direct purchase: bank transfer before pickup; no machine leaves your site without confirmed payment. From first contact to pickup the process usually takes 7 to 15 working days; for a complete PET-Line plant with peripherals, an on-site visit can add a day or two.

Do you charge a commission or a fee for the valuation?

No. The valuation is free and non-binding. We buy directly, and a direct purchase carries no commission. Sale through our buyer network: commission stated upfront; you are paid before pickup.
