Studer S41 for sale: universal cylindrical grinding with stable resale value

The S41 is Studer’s high-performance universal cylindrical grinder: CNC B-axis for contour grinding, high rigidity through its swivel-head design, and StuderGuide linear-motor guideways on all axes. In the lineup since 2011 and still part of Studer’s current range. On the used market, an S41 meets a smaller but better-funded buyer pool than the higher-volume universal models S31 and S33.

Buyers are predominantly shops with contour grinding needs — camshafts and crankshafts, bearing raceways, complex rotational parts with multiple diameters and radii in a single setup. Because Studer owners tend to keep their machines longer than average, used S41 supply stays chronically tight and demand correspondingly stable. Unlike milling or turning machines, a cylindrical grinder’s resale value is not primarily driven by control generation but by the mechanical condition of the grinding spindle, guideways and B-axis.

Pricing (as of October 2026)

We have no reliable public price range for the Studer S41: of the Studer listings we reviewed on Maschinensucher in October 2026, only a small minority state a price, and no S41 was among them. Value is set by build year, control generation, grinding spindle condition, B-axis and grinding head equipment. First assessment after receiving your data. The methodology behind our valuation: What is my CNC machine worth?

What determines your S41’s price

  • Control generation: current build years run on the C.O.R.E. OS operating system, while traded used machines mostly run on a Fanuc 31i base with StuderWIN/StuderGRIND — both generations are marketable, with the newer variant commanding a premium.
  • Grinding spindle condition: the single biggest value driver — a current test report (runout, vibration, temperature) supports the valuation.
  • B-axis and grinding head equipment: a working B-axis and additional grinding heads widen the buyer pool to aerospace and bearing manufacturers.
  • Dresser and maintenance records: documented diamond dresser condition and Studer-compliant service history noticeably increase buyer confidence.
  • Duty profile: an S41 from single-shift operation on precision shaft or camshaft work commands better prices than a machine from continuous three-shift series production.

Typical buyers of a Studer S41

The S41 appeals to buyers with demanding contour grinding needs — aerospace suppliers, bearing manufacturers, specialized camshaft and crankshaft suppliers — who specifically seek out the B-axis and StuderGuide rigidity. Compare all Studer series: Studer brand hub.

How the sale works

The process follows our Studer acquisition process: build year, control version, spindle hours (external and, if applicable, internal grinding tracked separately) and photos are enough for the first assessment. After that: an offer, payment before pickup; we organise disassembly and transport — granite reference surfaces and guideways are secured against impact and moisture in the process. Details: How it works.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is my Studer S41 worth today?

We have no reliable public price range for the Studer S41: most listings on used-machinery marketplaces are posted without a price. Build year, control generation, grinding spindle condition and B-axis equipment determine the value.

What sets the S41 apart from the smaller S31 and S33 series?

The S41 is Studer's high-performance model with a CNC B-axis for contour grinding, higher rigidity through its swivel-head design, and greater permissible workpiece weight than the S31/S33. That puts its used price well above the smaller series' core market — the buyer pool is narrower but better-funded: aerospace, bearing manufacturers, crankshaft specialists.

Do you also buy older S41 machines with Fanuc control instead of C.O.R.E. OS?

Yes. The C.O.R.E. OS operating system only runs on Studer's current new-machine generation; most used machines traded run on a Fanuc 31i base with StuderWIN/StuderGRIND software — an established system that's still in demand. What determines price is mechanical condition, not the control generation alone.

How much does a working second grinding head affect the price?

An additional grinding head or a working internal grinding option significantly widens the machine's range of use and is valued in full at acquisition. If the function is missing or the head is faulty, we price in the restoration cost realistically — the S41 remains a sought-after asset either way.
